What do foster carers do?

Foster carers provide safe, loving, and stable homes for children and young people who are unable to live with their birth families. This could be for a short period or a longer-term placement, depending on the needs of the child. Every child is unique, and so are the types of care they may need.

As a foster carer, you play a vital role in their lives, offering support, guidance, and understanding during challenging times.

Foster carers are everyday people who can:

  • provide a stable home where children can feel safe and valued
  • help children stay connected to their culture, identity, and family (where appropriate)
  • offer emotional support and guidance to help them grow and thrive
  • work with professionals to meet the child’s individual needs
  • encourage them to explore new interests, develop skills, and build relationships

At Camden, we provide ongoing support to help foster carers with this rewarding but challenging role, including access to 24/7 advice, training and generous financial allowances.
