Camden chosen to lead new North London Fostering Hub

More children in Camden and North London will now have the chance to grow up in safe, stable and loving homes close to their communities thanks to a major new government investment in fostering.

The government has announced the next phase of its national fostering programme. It has confirmed that 14 Fostering Hubs will be operating across England from this autumn. Camden has been selected to host the new North London Fostering Hub, which will launch on Thursday 1 October.

The hub will bring together Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey and Islington councils to recruit and support more foster carers across the region. By working together, we aim to ensure more children can stay close to their schools, friends and support networks when they need foster care.

The new hub builds on the long-standing North London Fostering and Permanency Consortium, a partnership that has been bringing the 6 councils together since 2012. We've been sharing expertise, training, resources and recruitment activity.

Better support for foster carers

The government has also confirmed that the Room Makers programme will be expanded to all Fostering Hubs. The programme provides funding to help foster carers make changes to their homes, creating additional space so they can care for more children.

This means current and future foster carers could benefit from extra support to help meet the growing need for foster homes across North London.

The government has also confirmed a new Regional Care Cooperative (RCC) for London. These partnerships bring councils and other organisations together to improve how children's care services are planned and delivered, helping more children find the right care closer to home.
